Happy Tails...
Over the last six months, PG volunteers and adopters
have have stepped up to the plate twice and taken in 14 greyhounds from
two separate events. Both times, they knocked it out of the park!
On a rainy Memorial Day weekend, five dogs arrived from the closing of the
Plainfield, CT racing track. Although all but two were supposed to
be fostered, all but none were quickly adopted, adding three more families
to the list of those who have flunked fostering 101.

Earlier this year, on a bitter cold day in January, PG
took in nine dogs from the closing of a breeding farm in Kansas. The
dogs arrived in such awful condition that it took many of the volunteers a
minute to catch their breath. You would never have guessed their
ordeal by the wagging tails that arrived that day. They entered a
room full of love and compassion and never looked back! Four of them
had their homes from day one, but as with the Plainfield dogs, several
more families were added to the Fostering 101 flunk list as their fosters
became permanent!
In the end, 14 more dogs found wonderful homes, thanks
to the efforts of everyone involved from Kansas to Connecticut, to Camp
Hill to you! When you look at all of the dogs needing homes
each, sometimes it's hard to see that as an accomplishment worthy of
mention. However, it all begins with one...
"While walking along a beach, a man saw in the distance
what looked like a boy dancing. He was encouraged by the outward
expression of someone dancing to the new day on the beach, and he
approached the young man. As he got closer, he realized that the young man
was actually running, leaning down, picking something up and then gently
throwing it far into the ocean. As he came closer, he saw thousands of
starfish the tide had thrown onto the beach. Unable to return to the ocean
during low tide, the starfish were dying. He observed the young man
picking up the starfish one by one and throwing them back.
After watching the seemingly futile effort, the observer said to the young
man, "There must be thousands of starfish on this beach. It would be
impossible for you to get to all of them. There are simply too many. You
can't possibly save enough to make a difference."
The young man smiled as he continued to pick up another starfish and toss
it back into the ocean.
"It made a difference to that one," he replied."
